Film: Glorious Back Home

I was invited to the preview of the film “Glorious Back Home”, depicting the life of former Hanshin Tigers player Shintaro Yokota, who passed away in 2023 due to a brain tumour.

Though I have covered Japanese professional baseball for nearly a decade, I had never interviewed him and knew only of his illness through media reports. I learnt about his journey to become a professional player, the physical changes that manifested in his body and how he spent his final days.
